IntraGreens first imported Dracaena 'Stednerii' from Africa vía Europe in 1987. Since then, through a lengthy selection process, we have 'weeded out' the poor performing and less attractive plants so that now we have beautiful isolated cultivars. Original Dracaena 'Stednerii' cane is the African counterpart to Dracaena 'Fragrans' from Central America. Although not as thick as the Massangeana variety, it is much thicker than Dracaena Janet Craig.
Its leaves maintain their beauty longer than the American Dracaena Massangeana 'Fragrans', and boasts of being more cold resistant, which increases the 'window' of sales. Standard Stednerii cane has been known in Europe for over 30 years, but the super selected patented cultivar IntraGreens has developed is now available in the USA. (USA Patent #US PP11,972 P2)
Growing conditions: This cultivar is known to root quite readily (within three weeks), with a shorter total growing time, creating greater turnover for the nurseryman. Most cane sprouts three tips, with a minimum of two. These canes are grown in harmony with the environment, as we use no toxic chemicals whatsoever in their cultivation. Almost all the fertilization is done with bokashi, or fermented organic matter (manures). Nonetheless, being a totally green plant, they can eat quite a bit, and love extra doses of iron, and magnesium, and respond well to slow release fertilizers after import. Keep your pH just below 5!
Shipping information: As much as double the amount of cane fits on an ocean container when compared to Dr.Massangeana or Dr.Fragrans, reducing the high cost of transportation per foot (approximately 3000 feet per 'tower' or wooden crate) Shipped in wooden crates, cut to order, from 20cm(8 inches) to 150cm (5 feet).
Availability: Limited. It is strongly suggested to set up a program for delivery well in advance. Preference is given to those willing to make a program and cane is sold on a first come first serve. These canes are seasoned naturally from 6 to 9 months before harvest. Ideal shipping months are from May to December so that the finished plants do not coincide with the slow sales of the summer or extreme heat stress.
